ABOUT

‘4 for 40’ is not just a challenge; it’s a platform for change. It’s where our New Zealand values of justice and equity find their voice in the face of global and local issues that demand our attention.

What is ‘4 for 40’?

  • 4 minutes of daily action to support a cause you care about.
  • 40 days of collective effort to push for change.

STOP THE SILENCE

Our current and first campaign under ‘4 for 40’ is ‘Stop the Silence’—a call to end our government’s complicit silence on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to advocate for an end to hostilities. This isn’t just about international advocacy; it’s about reflecting on our national values and how we, as New Zealanders, respond to global humanitarian needs.

The ‘4 for 40’ Challenge utilises our V.A.L.U.E.S for change framework —Voice, Advocate, Learn, Unite, Encourage, Support – to guide your daily actions.

We equip participants with curated resources and fresh daily content. Once signed up to the campaign you will receive a welcome pack explaining the campaign in more detail and how you can get started. Each day you will receive an email with daily action prompt ideas. Daily content will also be posted on our social media that you can follow and engage with.

Our Story

The inspiration for ‘4 for 40’ comes out of the learnings from the aftermath of the Christchurch mosque attacks. As members of the Muslim community in Christchurch, we were at the epicentre of an outpouring of public goodwill and a desire for positive action. Yet, despite this groundswell, there was a lack of direction. People were eager to help but didn’t know how. Even governmental agencies, with all their resources, struggled to provide a plan others could buy into. The result was a tragic loss of potential—a dissipation of collective energy that could have been channelled into meaningful change.

‘4 for 40’ is our response to this challenge. It’s an attempt to ensure that the energy for change doesn’t just dissipate but is captured, empowered, and directed in a meaningful way. When there’s a clear social outcome that needs to be achieved—and when the powers that be, such as governments or international bodies, are clearly not doing enough—’4 for 40’ steps in and steps up to help mobilise the community.
